Nunley Floyd Russell Sr.

Our beloved Daddy/Papaw passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, strength and an immeasurable work ethic. He enjoyed the simple life. He was happiest when his children, nieces and nephews, especially the grandchildren were around. He found joy in teaching us about life, gardening, tending cows, feeding the birds/deer and caring for his wife and family. He guided us with love and patience. His memory and spirit will live on in every life he nurtured.

He graduated from Lufkin High school in 1956, he always enjoyed attending his class reunions. He worked various jobs in the Lufkin area before taking the advice from his brother in law CB Thigpen to move to Houston for work where he met the girl next door and later married her. He worked at Handy Food Mart and Texas Oxygen before becoming a career local truck driver for Red Arrow Freight Lines (1963), sold to Carolina Freight (1984), sold to ABF (1995). He worked 38 years as a truck driver making delivers, training other drivers, and worked the docks when needed. He moved back to Lufkin in 2001to resume the simple life of working with his hands.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Anna Mae Russell; daughter, Sheryl Hughes; daughter, Karen and husband Gerald (Chat) Malloy; daughter, Dede and husband Tony Gonzales; son, Nunley “Bubba” Russell, Jr.; adoptive daughter Vicki and husband Gordy Steele. Granddaughter: Kathryn and husband Brandon Crapo; Grandson: Matthew Russell and girlfriend Jessica Rocha; Granddaughter Mikaela and husband Brett Oliver; Granddaughter Sophia Gonzales; Granddaughter Oliva Gonzales and Great Grandson: Townes Ryan Crapo; Sisters: Gladys Thigpen and Verline Hartman; sister in law Barbara Richey and brother in law Bill Wesley and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Grandchildren: Chattary and husband Junior Gilmore; Rance, Fallon & Reide. Caleb and wife Correnna Malloy; Donna, Carissa, Ariana, & Brayden.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chester M. Russell; sister, Alice Louise Dabbs; sister, Laverne Wesley.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15th from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Gipson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Satruday, August 16th at 10:00 AM. Rev. James Wagstaff officiating.
