Owen Quentin "Pete" Brooks

Services for Owen Q. “Pete” Brooks, 87, of Zavalla, TX, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roy Hall and Keith Guenther officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 South First Street in Lufkin, TX.

Mr. Brooks was born November 24, 1927 in Hemphill County, Glazier, Texas, the son of Piney Myrtle (Westbrook) and Ernest Burton Brooks. He passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at his residence in Zavalla.

Mr. Brooks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #748 in Conroe, Texas since 1967. He was a faithful church member of Lakewood Baptist Church since 1997.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Mary Waldon Brooks; daughter, Beverly and Rey Ruiz of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Alisha Roach, Jason Ruiz, Rachael and James Carranza and Trace Brooks; sister, Helen and Buford Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-children, Gale and Danny Shankle, Becky Guenther, Nancy and D. W. Moore, Jr., Shelly and Joe Pazdera, Jimmy and Angel Waldon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jo Ballard; son, James Brooks; and infant daughter, Carolyn.

Pallbearers will be Jason Ruiz, Rey Ruiz, James Carranza, Brandon Waldon, Josh Waldon and Wes Carrell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Brooks’ memory to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904 or to Lakewood Baptist Church, 3497 TX Highway 147, Zavalla, TX 75980.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
