Sarah Alice Johnson

Services for Sarah Alice Peoples Johnson, 83, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel, with interment following in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Johnson was born November 15, 1933 in Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of the late Sarah (Thorn) and James William Peoples. She passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and loving wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and attending auctions with him. She was a member of Union Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Linda Gail Knight of Lufkin; sister, Alma Ruth Walter of Longview; brother and sister-in-law, J. W. and Eunice Peoples of Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Clem Johnson; brother, Josh Mashburn; sisters, Mary E. Foreman, Jimmie C. Smith, Nina Baker and Florine Nerren; and stepdaughter, Margie Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Mick Johnson, Ron Copeland, Jon Copeland, David Gordon, Rhett Smith and Derek Smith.

Honorary pallbearer will be Mark Harris.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
