Shirley Ann McCool, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born on June 3, 1946, in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, to Murrue (Cashwell) Broadway and Roy James Broadway.
Shirley was a strong, hardworking woman who never let life’s challenges stand in her way. As a single mother, she worked hard to provide for her family and raised her four boys with a fierce love and devotion. She was the kind of woman who could drive a tractor, get the job done, and probably have a quick-witted comment ready while she was doing it. Her strength, determination, and humor were a reflection of the woman she was.
Shirley was also an artist who found joy in creating, and she had a heart that loved deeply. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devout Pentecostal woman who held firmly to her faith and her relationship with the Lord.
Of all the things Shirley loved, few compared to the love she had for her family—and especially her four boys. She loved them deeply and was proud of each of them. Her family grew through the years to include nine grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, giving her many lives to love and many memories to cherish.
Shirley also shared a very special bond with her beloved cat, Koda. Koda was far more than a pet—Koda was her companion, her comfort, and truly a part of her life. Her love for Koda was unmistakable.
She is survived by her sons, Michael McCool of the Houston area; Jerry McCool and wife, Ronda, of Camden, Arkansas; and Stephen McCool and wife, Denise, of Huntington, Texas; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members; her beloved cat, Koda; and her two special friends, Nancy and Rhonda.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Murrue and Roy Broadway; her sister, Judy; and her son, Darrell McCool.
Shirley leaves behind a family who will remember her strength, her quick wit, her artistic spirit, her unwavering faith, and the deep love she had for those who mattered most to her. Though she will be greatly missed, the love she poured into her family will continue through the generations she leaves behind.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Grand View Cemetery in Pasadena, Texas.
