

Sister Martin Marie of the Eucharist, O.P. was born Carol Ann Pappano on March 28, 1946, to Josephine Rita Pappano Guazzelli in Philadelphia, PA. She was adopted by Edward G. Mill and Regina Merz Mill on April 15,1946 and given the name Carolyn Elizabeth Mill. She died on May 13, 2026 in Humble, TX. Raised in the Lutheran faith on Merry Hill Farm in Chester Springs, Chester County, PA, Sister attended West Pikeland Elementary and Downingtown High School. She studied psychology and completed a course in reflexology and homeopathic medicine, a field in which she assisted for four years. She also worked at Howard Johnson’s for nine years as a prep and short order cook and manager. In 1976, while riding her bicycle, Sister was hit by a car. The extent of her internal injuries from the accident only became apparent with the passing of years. She would suffer the effects of this accident for the rest of her life.
Sister Martin Marie joined the Catholic Church in 1976 and entered the Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lancaster, PA, on March 27, 1978; received the Dominican habit on November 21, 1978, taking the religious name Sister Martin Marie of the Eucharist; made her First Profession on December 8, 1979; and her Solemn Vows on December 3, 1983. In the monastery, she served for many years as infirmarian. She was also community secretary, sacristan, librarian, cook, and sub-prioress. Skilled in calligraphy, painting, metalwork, sewing, embroidery, counted cross stitch, and crochet, Sister Martin Marie took artwork orders for the community and sewed altar linens. She was an avid reader all her life. Fiercely proud of her Sicilian heritage, Sister had a great love for Italian food, Philly cheesesteak coming in a close second. She had a remarkable capacity for friendship attested to by her voluminous correspondence.
When the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary closed in 2021, Sister Martin Marie asked to come to the Dominican Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, TX; formally transferring to this monastery in 2022. Due to her many health needs, while in Lufkin she resided at Parkwood in the Pines, The Meadows, and for three years at Pinecrest.
Sister is preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael A. Mill. She is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Nancy E. Remick Mill of Elverson, PA; her nephews Michael G. Mill and Matthew M. (Josie) Mill, all of Elverson; her great-nephew Michael M. (Lindsay) Mill and great-niece Tabitha Mill; and two great-great-nephews: Lucas and Logan Mill.
Rosary for Sister Martin Marie will be held at the Monastery Chapel at 7:00 PM on Sunday May 17, 2026. The funeral Mass with be celebrated by the Most Rev. John Gregory Kelly at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Monastery Chapel with internment in the Monastery cemetery immediately following the Mass. Pallbearers will be Michael Kelly, Peter Zapata, Donn Vance, Tim Healy, and Paul Johnson. Honorary pallbearer: David Puckett. Invitations are extended through the press.
