

Services for T. J. Gay, 94, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Larry Chalker officiating. Interment will follow in the Cochran Cemetery.
T. J. was born October 10, 1922 in Trinity County, Texas, the son of the late Octavia Elizabeth (Collins) and Thomas Jefferson Gay. He passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Lufkin, Texas.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren, and a host of friends in the Spirit.
He was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
T. J. attended school in Trinity County. He was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was mustered out after the end of the war. He returned to East Texas and married Martha Cochran. Martha preceded him in death on July 1, 1972. He worked for a large utility company and then took the position in sales with the Singer Sewing Machine Company. After retiring from Singer, he built and operated vacation cabins on Lake Sam Rayburn, and acted as a fishing guide. He made a great many friends through all of his occupations and endeavors. He will be sorely missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in T. J.’s memory may be made to Denman Avenue Baptist Church, 1807 Denman Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75901; or to The Neches House, 406 Gobblers Knob, Lufkin, TX 75901.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
