Tommie Montes

Mass of the Christian Burial for Tommie Montes will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin, with Father Francis O’Dowd, Father Joe Lourdusamy, and Father Raymundo Garcia, celebrants. Interment will follow in the Moral Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Tommie Montes, 82, of Lufkin, was born March 7, 1931 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, the daughter of the late Annie (Ramos) and Alex Rodrigues. She passed away April 20, 2013 in a local hospital.

She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She served the Church as well as the Monastery. She loved to cook and hot tamales were her passion. She loved to gather friends and family around her table. Mrs. Montes always made sure her children were taken care of and she spoiled all five of them. She taught her children what was right and didn’t expect anything less of them. Her children learned from her good example. She enjoyed people in general and Mr. and Mrs. Montes danced together every Saturday night until recently.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Montes; sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold, Jr. and Ann Montes, Greg and Shannon Montes, Monte and Charlotte Montes; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Monty Stafford and Rhonda and John David Slack, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chad and Samie Montes, Cory Montes, Hilari and Emily Montes, all of Lufkin, Jonathan and Patricia Baker of Denver, Colorado, Shane and Karen Stafford, Joshua and Amber Slack, of Lufkin, and Jared Slack of Waco; great-grandchildren, Grace and Vivian Montes, Chloe and Mason Stafford and Haylee Slack; sister, Caroline Rodrigues of Nacogdoches; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Montes was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Henry, Alex, Jr. and John Rodrigues;and sisters, Janie, Josephine and Louise.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Chad Montes, Cory Montes, Joshua Slack, Jared Slack, Shane Stafford, Hilari and Emily Montes and Mason Stafford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Montes’ memory may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School, 2116 Lowry, Lufkin, Texas 75901; or to Monastery of the Infant Jesus, 1501 Lotus Lane, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
