

Services for Wendell C. Addington, 82, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Blackie Cranford officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Addington was born May 6, 1933, the son of the late Naomi (Collingsworth) and Howard B. Addington. He passed away Friday, May 22, 2015.
He was born in Celeste, Texas and graduated high school in Greenville, Texas. He served his country in the United States Army from May 12, 1953 to April 19, 1955. He met the love of his life, Nell Sikes, and they were married on July 6, 1957. He worked at Convair in Ft. Worth working on B-52 bombers and Walker McDonald in Greenville, Texas. He moved to Lufkin in 1962 and worked for Lufkin Industries as a security guard. He loved his family and enjoyed going to the Lufkin Panther games with his buddies, A. D. and Tommy. He also enjoyed going to Southern Gospel singings and reading, especially his Bible. He was a member of Chestnut Drive Baptist Church, and was formerly a member of the Nazarene Church for 70 years.
Mr. Addington was also a member of RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteers Program, President for 20 years; Angelina County Senior Citizens Board for 10 years or more; Salvation Army Adult Day Center Volunteer for 15 years; RSVP Advisory Council for 6 years; Angelina County Representative for RSVP Council; went to Austin for Silver Haired Legislature for 2 years; and retired from Lufkin Industries in 1998 after 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Addington of Lufkin; son, Charles Addington of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Bryan of Lufkin; daughter, Lorrie Addington of Lufkin; grandchild, Brady Addington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, A. D. Courtney and Tommy Hopson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Richards, Robert Adams, Jimmy Carnes, Doyle Scott, Gerald Forsythe, and Don Wayne Crager.
Honorary pallbearesr will be Joe Havard, Richard Montague and Joey Cranford.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
