Born in Boston to the late Stanislaus and Marguerite (Muise) Thibault. Joe was a graduate of Saugus High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, honorably serving during the Korean War aboard the fleet tug USS Arikara. The USS Arikara took part in the atomic energy tests at the Eniwetok proving ground. The ship is entitled to wear 5 of the 8 Korean battle stars. Upon returning home he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 103, until his retirement in 1991.
