Born in Lynn, Fred was one of four children to the late Margaret “Midge” (Lennon) and Alfred Ventura. He grew up in an Italian-American family and was a gregarious, easy-going, and fun-loving student at Classical High, class of ‘70. He met his wife Kathy, 50 years ago, while sledding with friends at Happy Valley.
Fred and Kathy married in 1974 and were joined by their first child, Shane, followed by daughters Hailey and Meagan. Fred owned his own plumbing business, Alfred Ventura Plumbing and Heating since 1979, and was a passionate, hard-working, selfless and dedicated Master Plumber. He helped out anyone who needed support and was well-known around Lynn, not just for his business advice, but because of his out-going, loving, and larger-than-life personality. Everyone knew “Freddy V” and everyone who met him, loved him.
He loved nothing more than his family and all those who he considered family because he “never met a stranger.” He greatly enjoyed family vacations to Aruba, holidays celebrations, and family card games. Later in life, his most favorite pastime was enjoying activities with his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife Kathy Ventura, son Shane Ventura of Lynn and his partner Jennifer Berg, daughter Hailey Ventura Wilson and husband Sean of Peabody, and Meagan Moar and husband Bill of Peabody, brother Donald Ventura of New Hampshire, grandchildren Gracie and Nathan Ventura and Keira and Will Moar; as well as “brothers and sisters” Stephen Catalano and Margaret O’Donnell of New Hampshire, John and Deb O’Donnell of Saugus, and Ed and Debbie Horton of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews including Claudia Catalano, Hadley Catalano Manning, John and Tim O’Donnell, and Tara Martin.
He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Alfred Ventura, and brother Michael Ventura, and twin sister Barbara Hamilton.
Fred was larger than life. He had a big presence, big personality, big laugh, but nothing was bigger than his heart.
Friends and family are invited to attend Fred’s wake on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 4-8 p.m at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. The funeral will follow on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius V Church at 215 Maple Street, Lynn. The burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem, MA.
