Ann Marie (Richardson) Davis, 88, loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and devoted friend, passed away in Ashburn, Virginia on March 21, 2026, after a long life filled with adventure. She epitomized the phrase “never met a stranger.” Ann was born in Salem, Massachusetts on June 2, 1937, the daughter of George E. and Julia R. (Sheridan) Richardson.
After graduating from Lynn English High School in 1954, she attended Bridgewater State College and then taught in Connecticut for several years. After her father received a telephone call about an overseas teaching position that she had applied for, she packed her suitcase and bravely left for France in 1960 to teach at a U.S. military school, with her parents’ encouragement. She was following in her father’s footsteps as he had left his native Scotland to live in America. On the plane, Ann met three women who were fellow teachers and they became lifelong friends. After she married Rex L. Davis, an Air Force aviator, she moved to England where he was stationed. Other military assignments were to follow within the U.S. and a second one in England. She and her three daughters settled in Laurel, Maryland in 1976. In addition to ferrying the three girls to their many activities, Ann taught at several elementary schools in Prince George’s County and was most fulfilled when teaching English to speakers of other languages. She had an enduring impact on thousands of children. Upon retiring in 2000, she moved to Las Vegas where her unparalleled interpersonal skills were invaluable during her time as an airport greeter and usher at a large venue. Her love of travel continued, taking her to Vietnam, Costa Rica, Cuba, and many other destinations. She moved back to the D.C. area in 2019, where she enjoyed being close to family and old friends, while making many new ones.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Leslie Davis, Karen (C. Damon) Hecker, and Erica Davis; grandchildren C. Zachary and Grace Hecker and Olivia and Ronald Borta; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Grace Richardson and brother, George Richardson.
