David M. Fitzgerald, age 63, retired Lynn Police Officer and lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. He was born in Lynn on April 9, 1958, the son of the late Richard A. and Teresa (Howley) Fitzgerald. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, as well as a master’s degree from Anna Maria College. He served the City of Lynn in the Police department for 31 years. David was a dedicated member of the Lynn Yacht Club. An avid outdoorsman and athlete, he thoroughly enjoyed hiking, skiing, fishing, kayaking, running, hunting, and any other pastime which provided him an opportunity to be active outside. In his retirement he added adventure to his repertoire, hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with his daughters and sailing in the Caribbean with his brothers. A connoisseur of fine local eats, two of his favorite Lynn haunts were Old Tyme Italian and Pho Minh Ky.

He is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Fitzgerald and Sydney Fitzgerald; his brothers, Richard Fitzgerald and his wife Susan, and Thomas Fitzgerald and his wife Joanne; his cousin Karen Zysk; and his nieces Sarah Fitzgerald and Jessica Fitzgerald. He was predeceased by ex-wife Tracie Fitzgerald in 2015.

Fitzy was incredible. I had the honor of working with him at LPD. He sat with all the new guys and really took the time to walk them through the right way to do this job. I appreciated every second I got to work with him. I am so sorry for your loss.

It’s hard to describe the impact of losing some one you’ve known from the 6th Grade to your sixties. We were “brothers by other mothers” and grew up together.

The true quality of Fitz’ character is demonstrated by the impact this loss had on my whole family; siblings and kids. The loss is real. The sadness is deep.

From all the Carmichael’s, we’ll keep you in our hearts.

I was saddened to hear that David had passed. I have great childhood memories of this man. unfortunately I won't be able to attend his services due to the great distance.
To David's family I know you have lost a great man.

Sincerest Condolences to the Family and Friends of David Fitzgerald. Always a quiet kid in the neighborhood when we were all growing up on Glenwood Street. He was at my going away party as I entered the Marine Corps in 1973. He told me the neighborhood would never be the same once I left. I told him, he's in charge now. Did a great job too. RIP David, you're already missed and NOW the neighborhood will never be the same.
