Don was born in Lynn on May 25, 1934 to his parents Ernest and Julia Deveau. Family was Don’s top priority, and he was immensely proud of the beautiful life and family he built with his loving wife Allison of 42 years. He is survived by his children, Charles ”Gus” Jewell, David Deveau, Steven Jewell Sr. and his wife Hilda Jewell, Raymond Deveau and his partner Jean McGrath, Mary-Ellen Deveau, Allison Jewell and her wife Diane Conlon, Kathleen Sicard, April Lozzi and her husband Brian Lozzi. Don was especially proud of his beloved grandchildren Raul, Steven Jr, Eddie, Tanya, Kristina, Tina, Katya, Victoria, Brent, Brittany, Brianna, Selena, Benjamin and Sabrina as well as his great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his children, Maureen Deveau, Howard Jewell, and Benjamin Jewell.
A hardworking and intelligent man, Don worked for the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission, retiring in 2012. Outside of his career, he dedicated his life to being a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. As such, he could always be found at his family’s life events big and small, from hometown games to graduations. Don was especially known for his love of all New England sports teams and loved to hit the golf course (or even mini golf) with his grandchildren. Don was also an avid animal lover and walking his dogs was one of his most cherished daily activities, especially at his beloved family camp Arcadia Campground on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Although a generally introspective man, he had a quick wit and never hesitated to use it, especially during rambunctious family conversations. His family will miss his calming demeanor and levelheaded advice.
Visiting hours will be held at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Wednesday August 24, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A private burial will be held down the Cape for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald’s name to North Shore Animal Hospital in Salem, Massachusetts.
