

Mr. Donald P. “Duck” DeLand, age 72, of Lynn, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Leslie J. (Misius) DeLand with whom he just shared his 52nd wedding anniversary on February 3, 2013. To exemplify their commitment to one another, Duck and Leslie renewed their vows on their anniversary.
Born in Lynn, Duck was the son of the late Edward E. and Emily K. (Pollard) DeLand. He was a graduated of Lynn Trade School Class of 1959. Duck was a Machine Specialist working for Nevron Plastics for many years retiring in 2008. He had also worked for Champion Lamp in Lynn for many years and he was a Mold Maker for Moulds Service in Malden for 18 years. Duck was a Cub Master for Pack 121 and later a Boy Scout Master for Troop 29 of Lynn. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and cribbage. Duck was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, Duck is survived by 6 children who he was an amazing father to; Donald E. “Dusty” DeLand and Ron Mize of SC, Mary Ann Burkhart of MS, John Joseph DeLand and Kim of IA, Linda Jean Hicks and David of Lynn, Emily Kris Mordaunt and Craig of Lynn and Virginia Alice Santosuosso and James of Saugus. He was the grandfather of Christopher DeLand, Jeannette Mordaunt, Craig Mordaunt, Jr., Deanna Santosuosso, Matthew Santosuosso, Jamie Hicks, Rachael Hicks, Michael Hicks, Shawn Hicks. Also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. Niece and nephews, George Colby, Robert DeLand and Katherine Mangini. He was the brother to Harriet Ann Panton and Harold of OR and the late Edward Everett DeLand, Jr., who died in the Korean War, and Virginia Dorris Colby. Duck is also survived by his beloved dogs Jeb and Mia and his cat C-Note.
Duck’s Funeral will be held at First Congregational Church UCC Saugus, 300 Central Street, Saugus on Wednesday at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting Hours in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Tuesday from 5-8PM.
