Donald’s visiting hours will be in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. LYNN on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 10:00-12:00 noon. His Graveside Service will be at Pine Grove Cemetery Lynn Firefighters Lot at 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lynn Firefighters Relief Assoc. 101 Fayette St. Lynn, MA 01902. rn in Lynn October 27, 1934. He is the son of the late Vincent and Beatrice (Gaddis) Messina. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1952.Donald F. Messina, 84, of Lynn passed away on Friday October 4, 2019 in Lahey Clinic Burlington following a brief illness. He is the husband of the late Frances E. (White) Messina and the late Mary A. (Marsh) Walsh-Messina.

Donald was born in Lynn October 27, 1934. He is the son of the late Vincent and Beatrice (Gaddis) Messina. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1952.

Donald served the City of Lynn as a Lieutenant on the Lynn Fire Department for 33 years until his retirement in 1988. He also worked as a Meat Cutter for various businesses.

Donald was a member of the National Guard from 1952 to 1960, he served as a Master Sergeant and Chief of Firing Battery. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family, taking trips to Mohegan Sun, traveling, watching old movies, playing cards and following the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a member of the Lynn Firefighters Relief Association and also served as Treasurer. He was Past President of the East Lynn Little League, was Past President and Treasurer of the Lynn Firefighters Union, he was a former communicant and choir member at Holy Family Church.

He is survived by his children Maureen D’Entremont and her husband, James of Lynn, Kathleen Cohen and her husband, Fred of Danvers, Daniel Messina of Lynn, and Nancie DeJoie and her husband, Paul of Lynn. His sister Jean DeNunzio of Florida, his son-in-law Kenneth Bornstein of Lynn, his sister-in-law Margie Messina of Lynn. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Bornstein and sons James Messina, Rocco Messina and Mark Messina. His siblings Rita, Vincent, Joan, Phyllis and Carl.
