It is with profound sadness that the family of Dora Alicia Barragan announces her passing on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the age of 65. Dora was born in El Salvador to Lydia Juarez and Juan Antonio Zelada. She migrated to the US when she was 12, joining her family in Boston, MA. Dora graduated from Brookline High School. When Dora was 18 years old, she decided she wanted to explore the country on her own and moved to California. In California, she graduated from flight attendant school and met her husband, Jorge Barragan. They later moved to Massachusetts where she raised her three children alongside her nieces and nephews.
Dora was a very caring person and touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her love and dedication to the youth was unmatched. She saw the good in others and was always available to offer a helping hand. Her firm Christian faith, as well as her passion for helping others influenced her career choices. She worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 25 years assisting families in need. Dora later moved to Dallas, Texas, and worked as an Administrative Assistant for Buckner Children and Family Services for 14 years. Despite living in Dallas for 19 years, Dora’s heart remained in Boston. This was evident through her unyielding affection for the New England Patriots.
Dora enjoyed crafting and often used her creativity to make decorations and floral arrangements for the festive celebrations of her family and friends. She enjoyed hosting at her home, whether it was having the entire family over for the holidays or inviting people she had just met. Dora believed laughter and cafecito con pan dulce with friends were good for the soul. She enjoyed laughing the most and could often be found laughing at her brother's jokes, even if it was at her own expense.
Dora will be remembered by her husband and her children, Cristina, Christopher, and Cristal; her grandchildren, Carlos, Jayden, Adrian, and Dyani; her mother, Lydia Juarez; her siblings, Sonia, William, Ricardo, Nelson, and Oscar; her nieces and nephews, William, Agustin, Cristian, Sonia and Sarai; and her extended family members, her church family, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Francisca Juarez, her father, Juan Antonio Zelada, and her aunt, Flor Reyes.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Dora’s life Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St, Lynn. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
