He was the son of the late Salvatore and Helen (Zita Murphy) Volta. He leaves behind his Sister-in-Law Dolores Kohut, Niece Dia Garcia and Grand Niece Rachael Garcia and a number of cousins, especially Eileen Blyth and Dawn Henderson and special longtime friend Barbara Davis as well as many other friends.
Mr. Volta graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1955 and Suffolk University in 1959. He served in the US Army Medical Corp, 1959 -1965, both active and reserves and was honorably discharged in 1965 as a staff Sargent. He was a social worker for the City of Boston from 1964 until 1968, In1968 he was appointed Probation Officer for the Chelsea Court. He was promoted to the Assistant Chief Probation Officer in 1988.
Mr. Volta was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. As an active member of the Elks, he served in many capacities: Exalted Ruler of the Chelsea Lodge, District Deputy of The Massachusetts East District and President of the Mass. Elks Association. In addition, he served the New England states as a Grand Lodge Committeeman and later was elected as a Grand Lodge Officer. Among his many accomplishments, Ed was awarded the Mass. Elks State Association Elk of the Year in 1989-1990 and in 2010-2011 for his activities with Veterans and Youth Programs.
He requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mass. Elks Scholarship Fund, 63 Bay State Rd, Lynn, MA 01940, or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held in the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 10-11 AM with a service to follow at 11 AM. Inurnment in St Mary's Cemetery in Salem will be private.
