

Mr. Frederick H. “Bob” Verrell, Jr., age 86, of Lynn, died Tuesday at Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. “Dot” (Buskett) Verrell with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Kent, CT, he was the son of the late Frederick H. and Grace E. (Stevenson) Verrell. He lived in Lynn since 1945. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre, flying PBY air/sea rescue and combat missions. On July 25, 1944 he received recognition for crossing the equator.
He was a service representative for Lynn Gas & Electric Co., which became Boston Gas Co. He retired in 1983 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Lynn Gas & Electric Retirees Monthly Coffee Club.
Bob coached West Lynn American Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was a member of the Volunteer Yacht Club. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Lynn Fish & Game Club. He was also an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan and enjoyed playing cribbage.
He had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren and their interests.
He was the father of Paul Verrell and his wife Vivian of Waterboro, ME, Carol Helinski of No. Berwick, ME, Michael Verrell and his wife Debra of Lynn, and Gail Ladd and her husband James of Byfield. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Steven Verrell, father-in-law of the late Robert Helinski, and grandfather of the late Matthew and Mark Verrell.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beacon Hospice, 350 Main St., Haverhill 01830 or to the M.S.P.C.A., 350 So. Huntington Ave., Boston 02130.
