

Gary J. Nielsen, age 69 of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Lynn to the late John and Bertha (Schneider) Nielsen. Gary was a member of B.S.A. Troop 14, with whom he earned his Eagle Scout badge. He was a graduate of Lynn Tech, Class of 1975 and later attended Graham Junior College and later earned his Bachelors degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst and his Masters in Education from Springfield College. He was employed in Human Services and later in the technology field at Analogic.
Gary spent many years traveling New England before settling in Peabody in 2000. He was an avid Boston sports fan, especially enjoyed the Red Sox. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. One of Gary’s greatest gifts was his generosity to others, including friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Gary is predeceased by his sister Linda Fahy.
Gary is survived by his devoted siblings, Debbie Epsimos and her husband Peter of Exeter, NH and their children Carrie McKinnon and her husband Matt, and Jackie Egley and husband Shane; Paul Nielsen and his wife Karen of Danvers, and their children Amanda Brandt and her husband Dylan, Kelsey Brown and her husband Ethan, his nieces Jennifer Fahy and her partner John Cavanaugh, and Karen Peterson and her husband Christian; and 12 grand-nieces and nephews.
Gary’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. His funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185, Lake Street, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to Care Dimensions Hospice, www.caredimensions.org.
