Born in Stoneham on November 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Mary Ellen (Sheehan) Abbott. George graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1942. He moved to Lynn in 1963.
He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal (one Star) and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
George was the Superintendent of Calvary Cemetery, Woburn for the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Cemeteries for over 20 years and retired in 1993.
Brother of the late William Sullivan and Joseph Sullivan, he leaves several nieces and nephews including Margaret Grunst of Pittsfield, NH, Kathleen Smith of Lynn, Kevin Mullen of Sanford, ME, Robin White of Leominster, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also the uncle of the late Cheryl Brown of Lee, NH, and of Roy C. Mullen of Lynn.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday at 8 AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a Graveside Service in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn at 10 AM.
