Mrs. Gwendoline (Lorde) Simpson, 96, of Lynn, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh Simpson.

Born on September 4, 1923 in Eastborne, St. Philip, Barbados, she was the cherished daughter to the late James I. and Constance L. (Skeete) Lorde. Gwendoline worked as a talented seamstress while living in Barbados, but became a nurse’s aide while living in Lynn. She was a deeply religious woman who had an unconditional love for God and her family. The only thing that came second to her faith and family was her love for wrestling.

Gwendoline is survived by her son Noel Simpson and his wife Angela of Lynn; her daughters Esther Simpson and Joan Jones, both of Lynn; her grandchildren Gregory Jones and Reginald Jones; her great-grandchildren Jalana Jones and Reginald Jones Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gwendoline is predeceased by her brothers Sylvester Lorde and Osborne Lorde, and her sisters Mary Massiah, Lenora Haynes, and Selena Lorde.

Gwendoline’s visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Greater Bethlehem Temple Pentecostal Church, 21 Light Street, Lynn, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Her funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM in the church. Interment will take place at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
