

Helen M. Fleming, age 87, of Lynn and Tewksbury, died Wednesday August 12, 2015 at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham. Wife of the late Leonard E. Fleming, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Margaret (Gillespie) Stinson. She graduated from St. Mary’s Girls High School Class of 1945, Regis College and Salem State College. Helen was a teacher with Archdiocese of Boston for 20 years and Brown School in Peabody for 20 years retiring in 1988. Helen was a member of the St. Mary’s Alumni Association, a State Coordinator and Past President of Self Help for Hard of Hearing, founding president of the North of Boston Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association, a former member of Governor Dukakis Advocacy Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, a member of the Boston Guild of Hard of Hearing, as well serving on the Board, and a member of Consumer Advocacy Group at Channel 2 Boston. Helen is survived by her daughters, Susan Demarais of Chelmsford, Stephanie and her husband David DeBay of Dunstable and Andrea and her husband Michael Isabelle of Tewksbury; her brothers, John Stinson and his wife Mary of MD, George Stinson and his late wife Ann of NJ; her sisters, Sr. Margaret Stinson, C.S.J., Barbara Moran and her husband John, Mona McGovern; grandchildren Eric, Justin, Ariana, Ian, Stephen, Robert; great grandchildren, Mikayla, Tucker and Rayana. She was predeceased by her siblings, Harry W. Stinson and his late wife Evelyn, Donald J. Stinson, Mary F. Malone and her late husband William J, Sr. Dorothy A. Stinson, C.S.J. and Michelle Mulhern and her late husband John Emmett. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Helen should be remembered for her years of service to the Catholic Church, the Tree of Life Food Pantry (Lynn) as well as for her love of teaching to all of her students. She was a tireless advocate for the hard of hearing community. Helen loved to travel but her favorite place was always the beach in Lynn. Helen loved her large family and was proud of all but was especially devoted to her grandchildren. The family would like to the say thank you to the staff at Bethany Health Care Center for the care and love they provided Helen over the last year and a half. Her Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Monday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Lynn at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be private at a later date at the Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA. Visiting Hours Sunday from 4 to 8 PM. Contributions may be made in Helen’s name to the Helen M.
