

Inez Mary (Schofield) Coombs, born February 21, 1944, in Charlestown, NH, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. She was the beloved daughter of Ralph W. Schofield Sr. and Helda E. (Page) Schofield.
Raised in Charlestown, Inez graduated from Charlestown High School and furthered her education in nursing alongside various other interests. A resident of Salem, MA, she shared her life with her devoted husband, William E. Coombs. Known for her cheerful demeanor and loving heart, Inez had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and nurturing spirit touched countless lives throughout her years.
Inez was the proud mother of seven children: Gordon L. Laber Jr. (deceased), Ralph D. Laber, Steven J. Laber, Thomas S. Laber, Kaylee J. (Laber) Roberts, Rea C. Laber (Faith Hope), and Valerie J. (Tucker) McNeill. Each of her children carries forward her legacy of love and compassion.
She came from a large family of eight siblings: Daniel Page (deceased), Ralph W. Schofield Jr. (deceased), Clyde W. Schofield (deceased), Jeanie (Schofield) Esh, Patricia (Schofield) Bridge, Ruthie (Schofield) Troyer (deceased), Pam (Schofield) Beamon, and Eileen (Schofield) McComb. Inez cherished her family bonds and created lasting memories with those she loved.
Inez was married three times, with her husband William E. Coombs by her side at the time of her passing. She was also previously married to Clayton E. Tucker (deceased) and Gordon L. Laber Sr. (deceased). Her resilience and strength were evident even as she faced a lifetime of health challenges.
A memorial service in honor of Inez will be held at the First Baptist Church of Salem, 292 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970, on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress casually in celebration of her vibrant spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Salem, a cause that held special meaning for Inez.
