Irene Mary Melanson

Irene (LeBlanc) Melanson, 94, of Lynn, passed away Monday, October 19 at Lynn Home For Elderly Persons. Irene was the beloved wife of the late George Melanson with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

She was the loving mother of her daughters Patricia (Ronald) Chiappini of Peabody and Susan Saucier of Florida, the cherished grandmother of Kristen (William) Strain of Whitinsville, Lauren (Keith) Clickstein of Peabody, Michael Chiappini and his fiancée Jess Bauer of Peabody, Ryan (Xanthe) Mumm-Saucier of Arizona and Jessica Saucier and her fiancé Jason Ruttenberg of Florida. Great-grandmother to Emma Saucier, Abigail Strain, Victoria Strain, Mila Clickstein and Tessa Clickstein. The dear sister of her late brothers Arthur, Alfred “Frippy”, Tony, Robert, Edward “Figgy”, Edgar and Raymond. Her late sisters Yvonne Ostrowsky, Corinne Serino, Rita Bisson, and Doris Bourgeois and the adored aunt of many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Born in Lynn, Irene was devoted daughter of the late Maxime and Locade (Goguen) LeBlanc. She graduated from St. Jean the Baptiste High School in Lynn Class of 1950.

She worked at the former Lynn Hospital for over 25 years in the Billing Department. In her later years, she worked for GLSS for a few years.

Irene was a member of the former St. Jean the Baptiste Parish in Lynn. She enjoyed bowling on leagues and was an avid reader. She enjoyed trips to Lake Winnipesaukee with her family and George’s sisters and their families, as well as trips to the Cape with George’s extended family. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and nurses at Lynn Home For Elderly Persons and Care Dimensions for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Irene during her final years.

A visitation will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St, Lynn, on Monday, October 26, 2026 from 4 - 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St., Lynn, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM with her burial to follow at St. Jean de Baptiste Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to Lynn Home for Elderly Persons, 1 Atlantic Terrace, Lynn.
