James G. Fontes

Mr. James G. Fontes, age 70, of Salem, died early Thursday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Andrea (Gaynor) Fontes, with whom he shared 22 years or marriage.

Born in Cambridge, James was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Roderick) Fontes. He was raised in Cambridge and previously lived in Maynard before settling in Salem.

He enjoyed painting, drawing, photography and carpentry. A very musical man, he could play many instruments including drums and piano. James was a caring, kind and compassionate man who mentored many young people.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Jim Fontes and Lori Fontes both of Falmouth and Brian Cushing of Maynard. He was the brother of Harold Fontes and the late Joseph Fontes. Also survived by his granddaughter, Chelsea.

James’ Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday at 11:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Pius V Church at 12:30PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours Monday 4-7PM.
