

Mr. James E. McLaughlin, III, age 56 years, of Lynn, died Tuesday morning at his home, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Boston he was the son of the late James E. and Margaret (Silk) McLaughlin. He graduated from Malden Catholic, Class of 1974, and Franklin Institute, Class of 1976. Jim started his automotive career, working as a mechanic at Glenmere Service Station, in Lynn, from there he went on to establish J. E. M. Car Care, on Commercial St. in Lynn. When more space was needed to expand his growing business, he moved to the Bennett St., and in 1993, purchased his current location at 164 Blossom St. Since 1997, their business has transformed from J.E.M. Car Care into Jim McLaughlin's Transmission Center, a certified Allison Transmission Dealer, and Lynnway Truck Center, a full service truck repair facility. Under Lynnway Truck Center he owned a Hino Diesel Medium-Duty Truck Dealership. In 1996 he added JME Towing, Inc. to his growing business, a 24-hour Emergency Road Side Service Facility. Four years ago Jim combined Transmission Center and Lynnway Truck Center to create McLaughlin's Car and Truck Repair Center, specializing in the repair of all makes and models, in addition to transmission repair. He was also the Harbor Master in Salem, and Assistant Harbor Master, and Constable in Lynn. Jim was a communicant of St. Pius V Church, and a member of the Broad Sound Tuna Club, Knights of Pythias, Knights of Columbus, Bruins Alumni Hockey Association, LPD Golf League, and played hockey in the Greater Lowell Men's League. An avid Bruins fan, he had seasons tickets on the blue line for many years, and enjoyed taking family, friends, and business associates to Bruins Games. He is survived by two sons Craig McLaughlin of Lynn, Matt McLaughlin of Lynn, two daughters Kristin and her husband Michael Sullivan of Deerfield, NH, Melissa McLaughlin of Lynn, one brother Joseph McLaughlin of Methuen, four grandchildren Tyler, Shamus, Pheobe, and Ethan Sullivan, all of Deerfield, NH, his girlfriend Debbie Nutter, and her son Matt Nutter of Swampscott, his close friend John "Chief" Bucyk, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the former husband of Debra S. (Durkee) McLaughlin. He was also grandfather of the late Liam and Rylee Sullivan, and brother of the late William McLaughlin. Service Details: Jim's Funeral Mass will at St. Pius V Church on Friday at 11:00 AM, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Thursday from 4:00 - 9:00 PM.
