Jane was a lifelong Nahanter who considered herself a “townie,” based on being third generation. She was a graduate of Nahant Junior High School, Lynn Classical High School, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she majored in Library Science and English. Jane returned to her alma mater, Nahant Junior High School, to teach English for several years until the school downsized, after which she moved on to a teaching job on the Cape. She later worked at Fidelity Investments, spending several years in Italy before returning to the States as a technical writer.
One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying her chalet in North Conway with her lifetime friend Carol Burns and friends, and lastly, a true love of her life was always Nahant. After retiring, she looked forward to volunteering with the Nahant Historical Society, where she felt, in her own small way, a part of the history of the town she loved.
She leaves her brother, Robert Kirkman, M.D., and sister-in-law, Michele Kirkman, as well as her two nephews, Robert Kirkman and Timothy Kirkman, and Timothy’s wife, Michelle Miller.
Jane’s visitation will be at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home in Lynn from 4:00–7:00 on Tuesday, August 25, with funeral services at 10:00 on August 26 at the same location. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant, where she will rest next to her mother and father.
