Janice “Jan” Clooney, 81, of Lynn, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, July 27, 2026. Born in Melrose, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Hazel E. (Erickson) Johnson. Janice grew up in Lynnfield and was a proud graduate of the Lynnfield High School class of 1962. She was the wife of the late John “Jack” Clooney, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2005.
After marrying in 1965, Janice and Jack would eventually move to Stoneham to raise their family. She enjoyed a long career at Tufts University and made countless memories and friendships during her time there. After her retirement in 2008, Jan spent many years in her favorite role as “Mimi” to her grandchildren.
A longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Janice enjoyed many days with her Chattering Crafters. Also, a devoted Red Sox fan, Janice could often be heard clapping and cheering for her team each season.
Jan will be dearly missed and is survived by her children: Michael and his wife Lisa of Dracut, and Beth and her husband Kyle of Lynn; her grandchildren Kate, Jack and Jason; as well as her extended family and friends.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly for the loving and warm care they provided her with.
A visitation will be held in the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 5-7 PM. A funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:30 AM with interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody
