Jean Marilyn Crilley Newbury, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, NH. She was an only child born on April 29, 1928 in Lynn, MA to Charles and Francis Crilley. She was a 1946 graduate of Lynn English High School. She married her late husband Robert Ralph Newbury in 1948 in Lynn, MA, with whom she had six children. She worked for Lynn City Hall in the Veterans Services department for over 35 years. She was devoted to the welfare of veterans, and worked tirelessly to assist them in accessing and utilizing financial, social, medical, and educational resources and benefits. She was especially gifted in organization and planning events like the yearly Veteran’s Day Parade.
As a world traveler, she had an adventurous spirit and loved learning about the local history, meeting new people, and tasting the cultural cuisine of every place she explored. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the simple pleasures of chatting with friends and family, playing cards, and reading a good book. She never missed an opportunity to shop or go for a trip to the casino where she played the slot machines or black jack till the wee hours of the night. As a socialite and entertainer, she had a knack for turning heads and stirring up laughter in the room with her witty sense of humor, style, and charisma. Jean was a loyal and loving mother who always had a close and special relationship with each of her children. She shared her last wishes in her final days of life: “I want all of my children and grandchildren to always show respect and kindness to one another”.
Jean was predeceased by her late husband Robert Newbury, son Thomas Newbury, and long-time traveling companion Joseph DeCristofaro. She is survived by her children Susan Neloms of Lynn, MA, Robert Newbury and wife Nancy Newbury of Danville, NH, Marcus Newbury of San Francisco, CA, Deborah Scott of Chocorua, NH, and John Newbury of Tiburon, CA; 11 grandchildren Lisa, Jason, Bonnie, Jennifer, Fallon, Thomas, Christopher, Heather, Susan, Charlie, and Natalie; 22 great grandchildren, Dennis, Nicholas, Samuel, Benjamin, Rosemary, Emma, Dylan, Pierson, Grey, Ever, Beau, Dani, Tyson, Ryker, Alli, Aaron, Aiden, Asher, Haylee, Brandon, Brodie, and Mila; 4 great-great grandchildren Kaloline, Keae, Jewellia, and Aaliyan.
She was, and will forever be dearly loved and missed by all. Rest in peace our beautiful, sweet Jean till we shall meet again and never depart.
“May the angels take her calmly, softly, and peacefully”
Marcus Newbury
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
