Joe Ahern

January 6, 1944 – January 17, 2022
Obituary of Joe Ahern
IN THE CARE OF

Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home

Thomas “Joe” Ahern, age 78 of Lynn, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Diane (St. Claire) Ahern, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Everett to the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Genevieve (Bowdren) Ahern. Joe grew up in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Following his education, he and Diane raised their family in Swampscott and worked for GE as a Flow Meter Analyst until his retirement.

Joe cherished nothing more than his wife Diane, the 52 years they shared, his family, and his backyard paradise, aka “Mr. Miyagi’s Garden”

He was an accomplished singer and songwriter in the 1960’s. He wrote a hit song called “Gee, I’m Gonna Miss You” which was covered by Graham Chapman (which charted at #1 in Australia) and the Improper Bostonians.

In addition to his wife Diane, Joe is survived by his loving children; Jennifer Ahern McMasters, Thomas Joseph “TJ” Ahern III, and Audra Ahern Smith; his loving grandchildren; Daniel “DJ” Smith, Emma Ahern, Adam Smith, and Andrew Smith.

He is predeceased by his siblings; Patricia Marsh, Richard Ahern, Kevin Ahern, and Maureen Ahern.

At the family’s request, funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to: The Last Resort Rescue (http://www.thelastresortrescue.com).
