Capt. John E. Decareau, Jr.

December 1, 1945August 30, 2020

Captain John (Jack) E. Decareau, Jr. age 74 of Plymouth, NH, formerly of Lynn, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 after a courageous battle with heart disease. He was the beloved husband of Donna (Blydell) Decareau, with whom he shared 13 years of marriage.

Jack was born and raised in Lynn on December 1, 1945 to Betty R. (Hennessey) Decareau and the late Capt. John E. Decareau, Sr. Jack was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He raised his family in Lynn and Georgetown before moving to Plymouth, NH following his retirement.

Jack retired from the Lynn Fire Department in 2003, after serving his community for 34 years. For the last 13 years of his service, he was Captain of the Lynn Arson Squad. Over the course of his career he is credited with investigating 2,500 fires. Jack was also the co-founder of the Red Knights Firefighters Motor Cycle Club in Essex County.

In his free time, Captain Jack loved wood working, fishing, coin collecting, sports memorabilia, and watching his daughter Casey play soccer. Ironically enough, despite his profession, Jack loved his home-made fireworks.

In addition to his wife Donna (Blydell) Decareau and Mummie Betty R. (Hennessey) Decareau, Jack is survived by his children Jeff Decareau, Susan Decareau, John E. Decareau III, Dylan Lederer, Aidan Decareau, Jacquelyn Decareau, Cassandra Decareau, and his stepdaughter Shayla Blydell; his brother Richard A. Decareau and his partner Robert Mitchell; and his grandchildren Felicity Decareau, Rowan Lederer, Teagan Stappen.

Jack is predeceased by his father Capt. John E. Decareau, Sr. and his daughter Dawn Decareau.

Visiting hours for Jack will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. A graveside service will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery at the Fire Fighters Memorial. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Lynn Firemen’s Credit Union, 30 Boston Street, Lynn, MA 01904, for the Relief Assoc in Memory of Captain Jack Decareau.

He was forever grateful to Mean and Clean.
