

John "Jack" Francis Donovan, Sr., 95, of Lynn, MA passed away peacefully in his sleep On Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, at Kaplan House in Danvers, MA. His beloved Edna was by his side. Jack was a veteran of the Army Air Force and worked in Plant Protection at General Motors where he met Edna. He later retired as Chief Fire Inspector for General Electric Riverworks.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edna Donovan (Gist). His children, Maureen Donovan (Tom Marasco), John F. Donovan, Jr., Eileen Van Wambeke (Jim), and Kevin Donovan. Grandchildren, Gregory Deratany (Alex), Valeri Dauter (Mark), Jason Donovan (Laurie), Bryan VanWambeke, Sean VanWambeke, Robert Rickman (Chelsea), KaeLee Rickman, and Lilly-Ann Dann (Aaron Benitez). His Great Grandchildren, Sydney Tennant (William, Sr.), Lennox Spears (Matthew), Rourke Dauter, Tate Beach (Logan), Eliza VanWambeke, Holden VanWambeke, A.J. Benitez, Claire Noack, Willow Wilbur, EverLeigh Rickman, and Arlo Rickman. Great - great grandsons, William Tennant, Jr., and Rivan Spears. Nieces and Nephews, Sheila Cronin (Albert), Mark Richmond, Helena Mantel (Ron), Michael Rettich and Kristopher Rettich. He is also survived by his lifelong friends Doris Wells, Robert Halbick and Nancy Moore. Jack’s family would also like to thank the staff of Salem Hospital’s Pingree 5 for the amazing love and care they provided to him.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Mother Julia Donovan (McCarthy) Casey, Father Patrick Donovan, and Step Father Patrick Casey. His ex-wife Elizabeth Donovan. His brother James Donovan, sister Phyllis Richmond (Hal), and great great grandson Liam Wilbur.
Jack’s visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. His funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. He will rest eternally in the veteran's section of Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. May God watch over him as he begins his next journey, HIS will be done.
