

Jack was born in Lynn, son of the late Frank and Helen (Ryan) Marr. He was the brother of the late Frank Marr. He was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1949, he then went onto Salem State College where he received his Bachelors degree in 1953 and then went on to receive his Masters Degree from Boston University.
He worked for the Lynn Public Schools as a History teacher. He began his career at Harrington Elementary School then was transferred to Breed Junior High School. He then was transferred to Lynn English High School where he taught for the remainder of his career. He retired in 1989 after teaching for 36 years. He was also inducted into the L.E.H.S. Hall of Fame.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal and held the rank of Private First Class.
Jack was very proud of his Irish heritage, and enjoyed music, reading and traveling the world. He was a long time communicant of St. Pius V Church. Jack was a knowledgeable Historian and had an extensive stein collection.
Jack was a devoted father to Jack Marr, Jr. and his wife Barbie of Lynn, Kevin J. Marr of Petaluma, CA and Paul R. Marr of Truro. He was a loving grandfather to Cameron and Kaleigh Marr, and also survived by many other loving family members.
Jack’s Funeral will be from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 417005, Boston 02241.
