John "Murph" J. Murphy Sr.

Murph was a lifelong resident of Lynn before moving to New Market, NH with his life partner Cynthia to be closer to his son Jay, daughter-in-law Stephanie and grandchildren Jaxson and Mia. Over the years he was a fixture at the fields, courts and theater stages of his grandchildren’s youth where he was affectionately known to all simply as “Grampy.”

An avid Boston sports fan Murph held Patriots season tickets with many of his greatest friends with whom he was the butt of endless jokes, he laughed along, he loved them all. A retiree of the GE in Lynn, he enjoyed riding his Harley by the beach, popcorn and popsicles.

Though a frugal man Murph wouldn’t hesitate to help anyone in need of anything. He loved all of his family, friends and Larry Bird more than they will ever know. His son Jay considers him to be the perfect grandfather and the best coach he never had.

Murph is survived by his devoted son John J. Murphy Jr and his wife Stephanie; his cherished grandchildren Jaxson and Mia Murphy; and his loving siblings Michael Murphy, Patricia Zaccaria, and Rita Jayroe.

He is predeceased by his mother Rita Brewer and his brother Daniel Murphy.

He cherished his time spent with family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
