

Mr. John F. Shanahan, of Lynn, passed away Sunday August 14th at Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody. He was the husband of the late Helen (Kozlowski) Shanahan, with whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on February 3, 1922, he was the son of the late John F. and Evelyn (Bruyn) Shanahan.
John was a proud member of the US Navy and served honorably from November 1942 through January 1946. He was so proud of his military service especially his status as a signalman aboard the Patrol Ship PC1080.
John returned to Lynn and was employed as a machinist at the GE in Lynn for 44 years. Throughout his long career, he received many awards and incentives for his contributions in machine development. In his spare time, John also was skilled in repairing watches of all kinds in the day when watches were treasured pieces of jewelry. He also enjoyed reminiscing about his younger days skating and playing hockey of Flax Pond in Lynn.
John was a proud veteran, a true Lynn guy, a great husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by a son Dan Shanahan of Bradford, a daughter Susan Raynes and her companion Bob St. Pierre of Salem, four grandchildren Kara Shanahan, Ryan Shanahan, and Megan Shanahan of Bradford and Ashley Raynes of Salem, a sister Avis Spadafora of Saugus, and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loyal lifelong friends Violet Raymond and her late husband James. John was predeceased by his son Mark Shanahan and his sisters Evelyn Turner and Doris Harris.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church Lynn at 9 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
