Katherine Gertrude McDonough

Katherine G. (Spaniak) McDonough, a long-time resident of Lynn, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 in the NSMC Salem Hospital, she was 71. Born in Salem on December 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Frank Spaniak and Barbara (Patterson) Mahoney. Kathy was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. She married her best friend , the love of her life, Martin J. McDonough, in St. Joseph’s Church in Lynn on June 30, 1966. The couple spent almost 50 years in marriage together raising and caring for their family. Kathy worked for many years for the Volkswagen dealership in billing/administration in Lynn/Beverly before retiring in 2000. Kathy was an accomplished cook and loved to make food for all her family, friends, and neighbors. While her lobster, scallops and seafood were delicious, Kathy’s cakes and desserts were always talked about. Through all her life’s accomplishments, Kathy’s true passion was always time spent with her loving grandchildren. In addition to her husband Martin, Kathy is survived by her children; Martin M. McDonough and his wife, Cara of Lynn, Theresa M. McDonough of Lynn, and Shawn P. McDonough of Lynn, her grandchildren; Brandon McKenzie, Ryan, Tyler, Austin, Madison, and Angelina, her siblings; Mary Ann Lambert and her husband, Larry of HI, Michael Stevans and his wife, Sharon of NY, Charles Spaniak of Beverly, Frank Spaniak and his wife, Gisela of WA, and George Burnett of Plainville. Kathy is also survived by her beloved friend, Helen LaForge of Beverly. A funeral service will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. LYNN on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10 AM. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM.
