Born in Salem, Léa was the daughter of the late Hector and Anna (Fontaine) Jalbert. She grew up in the Castle Hill section of Salem and graduated from Ste-Anne’s School. After their marriage in 1937, she and Earle lived in Marblehead. Earle had built their house. He died in 1974.
Léa formerly worked as a candy dipper, a housekeeper, and a cook. She was a communicant of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead. Léa loved gardening, cooking, baking, rug making and soap making. She was always busy doing something. She also enjoyed trips to Maine.
She leaves her devoted daughter and son-in-law Leann E. and John Messenger of Marblehead, a sister-in-law Arline Jalbert of Ft. Worth, TX, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Léo Jalbert, Hélène Jalbert, Bernadette Boucher, Odile Michaud, André Jalbert and Hector A. Jalbert.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 AM from the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home 142 Elm Street, Marblehead, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead at 10 AM. Burial in Waterside Cemetery. Visiting hours in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral HomeTuesday from 5-7 PM. Those who wish may make donations to their local Salvation Army.
