

Mr. Leonard R. Desmarais, retired Lynn Police Officer, 76, of Danvers formerly of Lynn died Wednesday evening in the Putnam Farm at Danvers after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Joan M. (Cusack) Desmarais.
Lenny was born in Nashua, NH, son of the late Raymond E. and Marion (Cote) Desmarais. Lenny was a resident of Lynn for most of his life before moving to Danvers 4 years ago. He was a graduate of St. Jeans High School Class of 1952.
Lenny was a Lynn Police Officer, he was appointed on January 30,1965 as a Reserve Officer. On March 25, 1967 he was appointed a Regular Officer. Lenny received Commendations on March 18, 1971 and August 8, 1985. Lenny retired February 28, 1998 after serving the City of Lynn for 31 years.
He was a United States Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict, in the Rhine River Patrol aboard the USS Preserver.
Lenny was a member of the Lynn Police Relief Association, and was an avid Golfer. Lenny also enjoyed his family, good friendship and Dining out. The Desmarais family wishes to thank the entire staff at Putnam Farm for the love and care they gave to Lenny over the past 4 years.
Lenny is survived by his 3 children Maura E. Flaherty of No. Andover and her children Nora and Jack Flaherty, Leonard E. Desmarais, Deputy Police Chief Lynn Police Department and his wife Jeanne of Danvers and their sons Michael and Samuel Desmarais and Suzanne Wolke and her husband R. Scott of West Newbury and their son Samuel Wolke. 2 Brothers Raymond Desmarais of Salem, NH and Normand Desmarais and his wife Arlene of Manassas,VA, 1 sister Lorraine Burrage and her husband John of Punta Gorda,FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and enjoyed a very close relationship with his niece Michele Desmarais of Lynn.
He was the father in law of the late Joseph Flaherty.
Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 AM. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in Lenny’s memory may be made to the Lynn Police Relief Assoc. 300 Washington St. Lynn, MA 01902. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn.
