Louis M Marino 88, of Swampscott, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, at Salem Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Carol Jean (Lermond) for 67 years. Born and raised in Swampscott, Lou lived his entire life in the home where he was born. He was the son of the late Michael and Eileen (Perry) Marino. A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Lou lived by the “Semper Fi” motto—always faithful.
Lou began his career in the family business, Marino Brothers, before founding Lou Marino & Sons. In his later years, he worked for N. Granese & Sons and Meninno Construction . He cherished time on the job site, sharing laughs with friends and family, and was known for giving kids and dogs rides in the front loader bucket. His wit and humor brought smiles to everyone around him.
An avid gardener, Lou specialized in dahlias, and was a loyal fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. In his younger years, he enjoyed golf, traveling with Carol, and collecting memorabilia from the 1950s and 1960s. A devoted Elvis Presley fan, he often sang along while surrounded by his collections. Known as “Papa,” Lou was happiest with his family. His loyalty, pride, and joy will be deeply missed.
Lou is survived by his wife Carol; children Michael Marino of Bridgewater, Kathleen Berube of Merrimack, NH, John Marino of Swampscott, and Donald Marino and wife Kathleen of Marblehead; sisters Ann Rendahl Virginia and Jeudi Janvrin of Salem; nine grandchildren Kristopher Berube, Jennifer (Berube) Halla, Michael Marino, Taylor Marino, Daniel Marino, Anthony Marino, Katie (Marino) Rosario, Derek Marino, and Lindsey Marino; three great-grandchildren Parker, Owen, and Sophie Halla; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Marino and his grandson Douglas Marino.
