Lucinda Hole Parker

November 2, 1934 – April 3, 2023
Obituary of Lucinda Hole Parker
IN THE CARE OF

Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home

Lucinda H. Parker passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of 88.

A celebration of Lucinda’s life will be held in June at Parish of the Epiphany, Winchester, MA. Lucinda’s ashes will be interred in Grandview Cemetery in Salem, OH.

Lucinda was born November 2, 1934 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Morlan and Alberta Hole. While she was in elementary school, the family moved to Damascus, Ohio. At the age of 12, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and lived courageously with this disease for 76 years. She was a Joslin Medalist, a program that recognizes those who have lived over 50 years with Type 1 Diabetes.

In April 1955 she married the love of her life, Harry Parker, and moved to Boardman, Ohio. Together they raised a strong family. Lucinda’s commitment to her complex diabetes care inspired her children to truly understand what perseverance and resilience look like.

In retirement, she and Harry moved to Kissimmee, Florida where they were active members of the St. John’s Episcopal Church community. They served this community through work on the Outreach Team where they led management of the food pantry and initiated a program to provide new shoes and socks to the unhoused every Holy Thursday.

After the passing of her beloved Harry in October 2015, Lucinda moved to Winchester, Massachusetts to be near her daughter and family. She lived at The Gables Assisted Living in Winchester where she was secretary of the resident’s association and enjoyed activities such as music, bible study and exercise class. She became a member of Parish of the Epiphany Episcopal Church. In 2022 a decline in her health necessitated a move to Aberjona Skilled Nursing Home.

Lucinda loved her immediate and extended family, her Christian faith and her country. Family photos, crosses, religious figurines and American flags were by her side wherever she lived. She was an avid consumer of news and loved to read.

Lucinda was blessed with many friends from as far back as her school days but she loved and appreciated all the staff and caregivers she met during her days in both assisted living and skilled nursing in Massachusetts.

Lucinda is survived by her daughter, Lori Parker-Hartigan and her husband, Bill Hartigan of Arlington, MA and her son, Stephen Parker and his wife, Sheri Parker of Eaton, CO. She also leaves five grandchildren, Wil Hartigan of Somerville, MA , Aidan Hartigan of Medford, MA, Somer Lamie Schager of Brighton, CO, Heather Warren of Freedom, OK, and Brandon Boss of Eaton, CO. She leaves six great grandchildren.

Memorial donations in Lucinda’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center. It was Lucinda’s great hope that medical science would advance to the point where diabetes was defeated in her lifetime.
