NAHANT – Malcolm Thomas Chamberlain, 83, a Nahant resident since 1962, passed away Sunday, September 18th at his home surrounded by his family. Born and educated in Leicester, England, Malcolm was the son of the late Thomas and Elsie (Foulds) Chamberlain; the beloved husband of 52 years to the late Monica M.T. (Young) Chamberlain; the loving and devoted father of Julie Chamberlain and her companion Don Haefner of Nahant; and Francine and her husband Kent McKenzie of Lynn. He was the cherished grandfather of Lee Dickerson and his wife Julianne of Derry, NH and Shawn Bargagna of Marblehead. He was the treasured great-grandfather of Theresa Frances Dickerson; the dear brother of Eunice Abbott of Leicester, England and the admired uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Malcolm served in the Royal Airforce as an operator prior to emigrating to Canada in 1958 and then to the U.S. in 1960 with his wife Monica. Malcolm was a skilled carpenter and a member of Boston Local #26 Carpenter’s union for many years until his retirement. Some of the carpentry projects of which he was most proud were: reconstructing the irregular roof of Faneuil Hall in Boston, condominiums at Seaport Landing, and the concrete footbridge across the Lynnway into Heritage Park. After his retirement, Malcolm was proud to serve as a home health aide for All Care VNA for over 15 years. He took pride in renovating rooms in his home and most recently building a multisided birdhouse for his front yard, which he enjoyed watching as he kept up on the events of the neighborhood. He loved going to the Cape with his wife and children and he loved to fish. He also loved tending to his tomato garden, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
