Marianela de Lourdes Castillo Viera, 88, passed away in her home on Thursday, August 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Marianela is predeceased by her beloved husband, Wilfredo Viera and her brothers, Samuel Cabrera and Leonel Castillo. Marianela was born, raised and educated in Santiago, Dominican Republic, to the late Fernando Castillo and Luisa Castillo Jiminian.
She immigrated to New York City, where she embraced the American dream and dedicated her life to her work, raising her five children and her church. Marianela was a talented seamstress and later worked alongside her husband Wilfredo at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, Long Island for many years until their retirement. She was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and fervently engaged in her Christian faith. Marianela was deeply compassionate, quick witted, tenacious, and loved spending time with her family. Her embrace and pride in her Hispanic heritage was matched only by her love of being American. One of the proudest moments in her life was the day she was naturalized and took her oath as an American Citizen.
Marianela is survived and missed by her loving family, including her sons Miguel A. Archilla Jr. and his wife Joanna, the Honorable Cesar A. Archilla and his wife Christine M. Filosa, William Viera and Vivian Cotto, and her daughters Myrna Viera and Patricia Viera. She also leaves behind twelve loving grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
