Mr. Mark Noel Thomas, Jr., age 84, of Swampscott formerly of Lynn, died Thursday morning in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Shaw) Thomas, with whom he shared nearly 61 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, Mark was the son of the late Irene (McNamara) Thomas. He was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Brooklyn Schools. He proudly served his country during World War II, serving in both the United States Army and Navy.
Mark returned to Lynn and resided here for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he was the Housing Director for the Town of Swampscott, a position he held for over 20 years.
He was an avid Patriots fan but above all else, Mark loved his family and enjoyed keeping busy by entertaining them and spending time together.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Gail I. Hall of Chelmsford, Keith H. Thomas and his wife Karen of Swampscott, Mark Brian Thomas of Revere and Kelle Wood and her husband Kevin of Danvers. He was the brother to Ruth Scanlon of Holiday, FL and Marion Gage of Tampa, FL. He was the loving Grandfather to Marcie, Amanda, Mark, Keith, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Kathryn, Kevin and the late Brendan and was the Great Grandfather to Owen and Thomas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother to the late June Pearl and Barbara Flynn.
Mark’s Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. At Mark’s request, burial will be private for the family. Visiting Hours Monday 4-7PM.
