Mrs. Norma S. (Sweetland) Wakeham, 86, of Lynn died Thursday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Chester E. Wakeham. Norma was born in Wakefield, MA, daughter of the late US Army Colonel Almon and Mary “Mae” (Deveney) Sweetland. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life and previously resided in Concord and California. Norma was a graduate of Concord High School and Mount St. Mary Business School in CA. She was a Patient Account Coordinator at Lynn and Union Hospital’s for several years until her retirement. She previously was the Registrar at the former Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. Norma was a long time communicant at St. Pius V Church and was a former member of the Sodality. She was a former Officer and Board member of Wyoma Little League, the Ladies Auxillary at Post 345 Shoemaker Post and was a member of the Stadium Condominiums Board of Trustees till 2011. Norma enjoyed boating on Flax Pond. She is survived by her loving children Stephen A. Wakeham and his wife Sally of Lynn, Dr. Kevin M. Wakeham and his wife Phyllis of Old Saybrook, CT, Lynn Police Officer Scott E. Wakeham and his wife Patricia of Lynn and Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Mary A. Wakeham and her partner Rhonda McManus of Lynn. She was the grandmother to Melissa Marino, Joshua, Erin, Brendan, Matthew, Kelly, Derek and Daniel Wakeham. Great Grandmother of Olivia and Allison Marino, AnnaSophia and Julietta Wakeham, Maya and Luke Wakeham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Patrick Wakeham and sister of the late Virgina Parker- Mayo, Beatrice Hanley, Thelma Coan and Almon “Sonny” Sweetland, Jr. Norma’s Funeral will be from the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4-8 PM. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Lynn.

When I was a kid, before Stevie was born, Norma came to Nahant and took Joby and me on the train to see the circus at Boston Garden. What fun it was! We have wonderful memories of Norma and Chet. Love to all the Wakehams, Mark Hanley
