He was the son of John Dennis and Mary (Mulligan) Dennis of Lynn, MA. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1944. He joined the Navy after graduation and served during World War II. He remained in the Navy Reserve and was called back for duty in the Korean War and retired as an Ensign in 1961. He graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in Physics in 1951. He continued his career in the science field with General Electric, Standard Thompson and Sylvania/General Telephone & Electronics (GTE).
He worked in research and development and has many patents. He was on the board of Underwriter Laboratories in Washington, D.C., which is responsible for the safety certification of electric devices. He worked in Standish, Maine for GTE for many years while living in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He retired in 1985 and went into the travel business where he owned a tour company and traveled throughout the world. He enjoyed music, golf, skiing, and sports, including the Boston College teams, Patriots, and the Red Sox. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 67 years Ann Patricia (Pat O’Grady) Dennis, son John Dennis (Susan) of Sharon, MA, daughter Paula Dennis of Lynn MA, his grandchildren Kathryn Chaknis (James) of Stoneham MA, and Stephanie Dennis (Nicholas Decoulos) of Danvers, MA, his brother William Dennis (Jean) of Swampscott, MA, and by many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Helen Dennis of Lynn, MA.
Friends and family are invited to join at Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn, on Friday, September 17, 2021 for Visitation from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral will begin from the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 17 Grove St. Lynnfield MA will be celebrated on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Lynn. The family has requested that all who attend services wear a face mask due to Covid-19 precautions.
