

Mrs. Phyllis (Yasi) Bonomo, 91, of Naples, Fl, formerly of Salem, MA, passed away on December 30, 2011, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph Bonomo, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Forenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gerardo Yasi and Carmela (Savino) Yasi. A resident of Lynn for more than 50 years, she previously resided in New Jersey when she first arrived in the United States at age seven and later resided in Nahant for several years. She was a part-time resident of Naples for many years and lived there year round beginning in 2002.
A graduate of Mansfield Beauty Academy, Phyllis worked for more than 50 years as a hairdresser. During her younger years she was an active member of the North Shore Cosmetologists Association. She also served on the Women's Board of the Union Hospital in Lynn and participated in several charitable hair styling shows as well as other professional and community activities and events. She spoke and gave demonstrations to graduating students, and throughout most of her career, regularly made home visits to do hair for the home bound.
Phyllis loved her work, but more than anything she loved her role as homemaker, wife and mother, and she was deeply devoted to her family. Cooking was one of her great talents and special joys. She enjoyed entertaining in her home and serving home-cooked meals and special dishes like home- made pasta, which she continued to do until age 89. She also enjoyed traveling and took several cruises and trips with her husband and later with her daughter, including trips to Italy where she was able to revisit her town of birth.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Donna Bonomo of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally Silva, Carmen Howcroft, and Theodore “Ted” Wynnyk, all of Peabody; nieces and nephews Rosanne Pappas and her husband John of Ipswich, Ralph Howcroft and his wife Susan of Maine and Naples,FL, Richard Howcroft and his wife Janet of Peabody, Carol Zdanowicz and her husband Michael of Peabody, Sandra Yasi of Franklin, and Debra Reynolds and her husband Warren of Franklin; and “second daughter” Helen DeSantis and her husband Henry DeSantis of Marshfield. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and many friends, including Sherry Gaurila who provided loving care to Phyllis during her extended illness. Special thanks also to Dr. James Reid Sterrett, staff at NCH Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and Segal Adony for their care and support. In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and Daniel Yasi; and sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law Constance (“Connie”) Wynnyk, Florence Yasi, John Silva, and John (“Jack”) Howcroft.
Phyllis’ Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday 3-7PM.
