Born in Lynn, Dick was the son of the late Louis and Louise (Mahoney) Cordes. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School Class of 1941. He later became a member of the Alumni Association.
Prior to his retirement in 1985, Dick worked as a Methods Planner for the GE Riverworks and previously worked in the Lynn Shoe Industry.
He was a WW II Navy veteran and held the rank of Seaman first Class
He was a longtime communicant of Saint Mary’s Church. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Gannon Golf Club and was a bartender at the Inner Club for many years as well as a bowler for the Cocktail League. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Dick was a member of the Lynn Post #507 VFW, the 201 I.U.E. AFL C10, Local 149 Planners Technical Writers and the Sea Bees.
He was loving companion of many years to Virginia Roberston of Lynn and was affectionately known as “Uncle Dick” to Virginia’s 4 sons , Richard J. Robertson and his wife Eileen of Lynn, Frederick Robertson and his wife Judith of Lynn, Howard Robertson and his wife Linda of Winthrop and George Robertson and his wife Barbara of Stoneham. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and longtime friend, James Nowlan of Peabody as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Audrey Bagley, Elaine Mini and Norma Nowlan.
Dick’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited.
