Robert David Hill, of Lynn and a retired Lynn Police Officer, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 in the care of Hospice Care Dimensions in Salem at the age of 91. Born in Swampscott on March 24, 1927, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Clarke) Hill. Robert was raised and educated in Lynn. He entered into the US Navy on December 26, 1944 to help fight for our country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 16, 1946 at the rank of Sergeant, 2nd Class. Robert celebrated 63 years of marriage to Jean M. (Perry) until her passing in November 2010. Robert was a dedicated member of the Lynn Police force serving from 1953 until his retirement in 1987. He was a dedicated husband and father and as the chef of the family, he loved to be cooking his family’s meals. He was an avid Boston sports fan and rooted on all the teams. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed bowling and spending time tending his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed traveling to Aruba, Foxwoods and playing family poker games.
Robert leaves his children: Robert K. Hill of Edgewater, FL, Nancy Halupowski and her husband, Mark of Lynn, and Joanne Lennon and her husband, Ronald of Ipswich. He also leaves his 6 granddaughters: Jaime Stelmart, Jennifer Lennon, Katie Hill, Christine Hill-Bonnell, Lindsay Halupowski, and Rachael Halupowski along with 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings: the late Arthur, Frederick, and Harry Hill and the late Edna Hill and Gertrude Cobb.
A Funeral Service will be held in Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11am. Family and friends are invited to arrive at 10am. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, April 26th from 4 to 8pm.
