LYNN – Robert J. Mason, Sr. 87, a longtime Lynn resident and business owner, passed away on Wednesday, March 20th at Sunrise at Gardner Park in Peabody. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (St. Croix) Mason with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Born in Chelsea, Robert was the son of the late Ernest and Viola (McKeen) Mason. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a printer by trade and started his own business, Mason Printing in Lynn in 1977 which he owned and operated for 40 years. In 1981 he finished his graphic arts certification at the Northeast Regional Vocational School in Wakefield. He then served as a graphic arts teacher for over 20 years at the Everett Vocational High School until his retirement in 2001. He was a boxing coach at the Lynn Boys Club in the 60’s and 70’s. He enjoyed spending time with his entire family especially his grandchildren.
Bob was the loving father of Robert J. Mason, Jr. and his wife Martha of San Francisco, CA, William A. Mason and his wife, Helen of Bridgewater, Ernest A. Mason and his wife, Marilyn of Wells, ME, Donald A. Mason and his wife, Jeanne, Thomas O. Mason and his wife, Mary and Dennis E. Mason and his wife, Terri, all of Lynn; the cherished grandfather of Virginia Letendre, Jessica Gago, Theresa Flynn, William A., Jr. Holly, Zachary, Donald A., Jr. Erica, Katrina, Marissa, Theresa, Veronica, Robert E., with whom he lived in Lynn, Kyle and Taylor Mason; the dear brother of the late William and Ernest Mason, Rita Vocino, and Lorraine Powers and the uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday, March 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, March 27th, at 11:30 a.m followed at 12:30 p.m. by a Funeral Mass at St. Pius V. Church, Lynn. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
