Robert E. Mirra, Sr. of Lynn and Brooksville, FL, passed away in Florida on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the age of 70. Born in Boston on December 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Eugene and Irene (Goldberg) Mirra and stepson of Edward Malagodi. Bob was raised and educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School. On July 25, 1967, Bob was drafted into the US Army to help fight during the Vietnam War. He served bravely as a Medical Corpsman until his honorable discharge on July 24, 1969. Bob began his career as a skilled machinist, he retired as a quality control manager from Precision Metal Products in Peabody before it closed in 1996. He married his soulmate, Catherine M. Nally, in June of 1978. The couple settled in Lynn to begin their lives together. In his retired years, Bob had many hobbies which always kept him occupied. His favorite times were spent with his children. He enjoyed camping at Kings and Queens Campground, and most recently at Wagon Wheel Campground in Old Orchard Beach, ME and taking cruises with his wife. Bob saw many beautiful areas of the world, including Alaska, the many islands of the Caribbean and Mexico. He enjoyed deep sea fishing in Tarpon Springs, FL. Bob loved his garage; he was quite the handyman and could fix basically anything. Bob was an avid of collector of Swarovski and loved to build Lego’s. His garage often found great friends joining him, as he thought he was part of his development’s crime watch. His favorite holiday was Christmas, he loved catching the Lynn Christmas Parade with his children Robert and Jennifer, his brother Richard and his niece Jessica and his nephew little Richie. Bob had a huge loving heart for his family and friends and will truly be missed.
In addition to his wife, Catherine (Nally) Mirra of Lynn and FL, Bob leaves his children: his son Robert E. Mirra, Jr. and his significant other, Stephanie DeSimone of Lynn and his daughter Jennifer Mirra and her significant other, Jason Smidt of Salem. Bob also leaves his siblings, Richard Malagodi of Saugus and Judith Blake of Revere as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sarah Marie Mirra and his sister, Leona Mirra.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 4 to 7pm followed by a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 7pm. A Graveside Service will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn on Friday, September 28th at 1:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the main gate on Boston Street at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the Lynn Christmas Parade, 15 Avon St. Lynn, MA 01905.
